Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.
Hours are published for 2 days a week. Typical hours are 7 AMβ7 PM. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Its website is damatoschicago.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

I traveled 2 hours looking for the best cannolis in the city after seeing this place recommended online. When I ordered I saw 3 cannolis left in the case 2 pistachio and 1 chocolate, so I ordered 1 of each. I specifically ordered one chocolate and one pistachio, never once was I told that these were actually peanuts dyed green and not pistachios. This is incredibly deceptive and dangerous for people with peanut allergies who can literally die from this bakery cheaping out on pistachios. This left a horrible taste in my mouth both figuratively and literally because i understand how incredibly dangerous this can be for those with food allergies. There was no indication that these were peanuts, both in the case or online, not to mention the cannolis were already incredibly expensive for not even using real pistachios. I wouldnβt have purchased these if I knew they were peanuts and I wouldβve just stuck to the chocolate because my partner has a horrible peanut allergy. Who puts peanuts in a cannoli?? I will say my friend enjoyed his sandwich but I felt so disgusting thinking about the amount of people who have been scammed by this βbakeryβ that we will not be coming back. I would rathe

This place is amazing!!! Thanks to Nickey (one of the most Chicago people I have ever met) for making sure I had 10 of the most delicious Arancini's I have ever eaten. The sourdough bread is legendary. We tried to go back last weekend but they were closed for some remodeling. No worries because we will be back EVERY time we are back in Chicago. next time, I will be trying MANY more items.

I am from California, and travel to Chicago for business regularly. One of my coworkers introduced me to the chicken cutlet ceaser sub and i died in happiness. I am here this week (june 16-18) and this is my go to place, only to find out they are without power due to a storm. Not only did they move their operation to across the way, they went, literally, out of their way to make my sandwich (it was a limited menu because of the outage). While it wasnt the cutlet (grilled chicken instead) i just wanted to take a moment and share my gratitude and appreciation for you surpassing and going above and beyond for an out of towner. I just know everyone was stressed but you guys made me (and my team) important and that speaks volumes. Hoping the power comes back soon for you guys! Thank you again, it was, as always, absolutely DELISH!

The cannoli, sub sandwiches, and bakery items we selected are prepared fresh daily and are exceptionally delicious. Despite a substantial queue, the wait was entirely warranted. I highly recommend sampling the chicken Caesar sub, which includes warm chicken cutlets. It is sure to leave you with a desire for more.

Directions: Walk into DβAmatoβs Stand with the million other people there trying to form some semblance of a line Greet the seemingly rude but probably just overstimulated and direct staff member Order the chicken Ceasar sandwich and the vodka chicken sandwich (if youβre alone its ok- nothing beats leftovers) Order a lemon ricotta cookie and a headful of other yummy desserts- you know, for the road. Take a seat in their very limited seating area or your car- the key is to eat these (particularly the vodka chicken) as soon as possible Indulge in some of the greatest delicacies that are the DβAmatoβs The next day, thank yourself for the leftovers if you manage to keep any. Dream about her for the next few days until you return. Mission complete
